Everyone working as an electrician requires the 18th Edition qualification to ensure they have a full understanding of the new Blue Book. All installations designed from January 2019 onwards must comply with the new regulations. However, not all electricians need to complete the assessment at the same time:
If you are working on public-sector contracts, you will need to take and pass the assessment from January 2019.
If you are a member of a scheme such as the NICEIC, ELECSA, STROMA, NAPIT or others, you will need to take and pass the assessment before you next renew your membership.
If you are registered with the JIB ECS check system, you will need to take and pass the assessment by a date that JIB ECS will confirm to you.
